Boxes are a great lift for buffets. Simply use a few different heights.

You will either want to place them directly under your table linens or you can place them on top of your base linen and then drap them with additional tabletop dressings.

I prefer the later, because it will be so much easier to rearrange them to the absolutely perfect spot.
